Lesbians on the Loose is a documentary we made in 2007 about the Australian publication LOTL. Started in 1989, LOTL is Australia's only magazine for lesbians, bisexuals and queer women. Over its 20+ year history, LOTL has united and divided the lesbian 'community' and documented the change in attitudes and acceptance for gay women in Australia. This film is a herstory, a conversation, a critique and a celebration of a groundbreaking publication. Features interviews with Joan Nestle, Frances Rand, Barbara Farrelly, DJ Kate Monroe, Christine Manfield, Nic Van Dyke, Clover Moore and Tanya Plibersek.
The magazine LOTL is still going strong, even after all these years. Visit the website to find out more about the magazine and the services on offer for lesbian and queer women around the world.
Lesbians on the Loose had its premiere screening at the Brisbane Queer Film Festival in 2007. Now in its thirteenth year, BQFF is bringing queer cinema to Queensland. Click here to find out about the 2012 program.
